LHS Sunday All Call for October 17th:

Good evening LHS students and parents. This is principal Megan Meschery with your weekly All Call. First and foremost, all of us at LHS would like to thank you for your amazing shift to online learning this last week and a half. We feel confident that this reset and the testing efforts by our school and county communities have put us at a positive place to open back up. We are really hopeful that with universal mask-wearing and keeping students home when not feeling well, we will be able to stay open.

Tomorrow is a “B” Day with our usual schedule.

Some important dates to mark on your calendars are the following:

On Wednesday, October 20th from 5:30-6:30 LHS is hosting Financial Aid Night for seniors. We will be assisting families in filling out their FAFSA forms for federal and state financial aid, so please bring your 2020 tax returns so you can complete the form that night.

Seniors are heading to the UNR Knowledge Center, AKA the library, on Thursday, October 21 to jumpstart their senior project research paper.

Picture retakes are now set for November 4th.

Homecoming is back in action the week of October 25th through the 30th. The schedule of events continues with the parade on Saturday at 10:00 and the Homecoming Game starting at 1:00 with the crowning ceremony and senior football and cheer appreciation happening during halftime. We will post a new schedule of events on our website and facebook page once we determine any necessary changes.

Sports are back with gusto this week! Middle School volleyball has a volleyball Jamboree at 4:00 in Portola on Tuesday and our Flag Football Team plays at 1:00 on Saturday here at home against Quincy.

High School sports has a big week starting Monday with JV and Varsity Volleyball playing Portola here at home at 5:00 and Soccer playing Portola away. Soccer playoffs begin Tuesday. Varsity Volleyball travels to Herlong on Tuesday and to Westwood on Wednesday, with their playoffs on Thursday. Our fabulous football team travels to Excel Christian on Saturday.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and Go Grizzlies!

I have questions about the all-call from tonight. You are testing for antigens on Thursday. What exactly does this mean and what are you looking to do specifically? If someone was positive, they will have the antigens and likely test positive for a while … even though they no longer have c-19 and are not contagious. That means they have the natural immunities. I’m a bit confused about what you’re looking for and the results of what you find? ... See MoreSee Less

I think the purpose is to help our county and the district with testing. We have a lot of people wanting or needing to be tested. This is not mandated to return. Just a support being offered.

LHS Sunday All Call, 10/10:

Good evening LHS students and parents. This is Principal Megan Meschery with your Sunday All Call.

This week begins our full week of online learning as a way to reset after our Covid 19 outbreak early last week. We are grateful for the support of our school community in making this decision and hope that we can all work together to prevent further outbreaks when we return to in-person learning. It is our hope that we all support the efforts to stay open safely, while also allowing students to work in groups and utilize their lockers. Further outbreaks could lead to enhanced Covid mitigations similar to last year, and we’re hoping that with 100% participation in universal mask-wearing as prescribed in our district plan, this will not be in our future.

Tomorrow, Monday, is an “A Day.” The school day begins at 8:00 with Period 1 and follows the regular class schedule. Please check your school email for any specific class instructions your teachers may be sending you. Wednesday will be an Early Release Wednesday as usual, with students following the Early Release Schedule. I will post the schedule on facebook and you can also find the schedule and All Call announcements on the LHS website: www.loyaltonhighschool.org under 2021-2022 School Schedule:

If you are having trouble with your internet or logging on to your classes, please email your teacher and call the office right away. We can help you troubleshoot.

Free lunches are also being served at the Loyalton Elementary School cafeteria. To ensure your child gets a lunch, please always call the cafeteria the day before and leave a message with the name of your child. To order lunches, call: 993-4482 extension 243.

October 20th from 5:30-6:30 is Financial Aid Night for seniors. We will be assisting families in filling out their FAFSA forms for federal and state financial aid, so please bring your 2020 tax returns so you can complete the form that night.

The Practice SAT of PSAT will be on October 26th.

Homecoming Week has been rescheduled for October 25th through the 30th.

Make-Up Picture Day and Senior Tux and Drape photos have been rescheduled for Thursday, November 4th.

If you have any questions about your child’s schedule or anything at all, please don’t hesitate to call me or Stacey or reach out via email.

Have a great week and Go Grizzlies

LHS All Call Text Regarding Transition to Online Learning
Tuesday, 10/5:

Good evening LHS students and parents. This is Principal Megan Meschery with an important All Call. First, thank you for your patience and support in our district decision to transition to online learning until Monday, October 18th. Student will return in person to school on the 18th. This decision was extremely difficult to make, especially knowing how it would impact our planned Homecoming celebrations. We will be rescheduling Homecoming.

Please listen carefully for the details of the transition at LHS. It’s a lot of information:

Pick up of any materials you might have left in your lockers or classrooms or that your teacher emails you to pick up will occur tomorrow from 8:00 to 10:00, again from 1:00 to 2:00, and again in the evening from 5:00 to 6:30. We will also have an extra pickup time on Friday from from 3:00 to 6:30. If you need a hotspot, please call the office as soon as possible so we can have one for you when you come to pick up any materials tomorrow.

Friday is a B DAY. The school day will follow the current bell schedule. Students will go to the Google Classrooms at the start times listed on their schedules and connect to the Zoom or Google Meet link listed in the Google Classroom. Students must come to all classes for attendence, even study halls and T.A’s. A photo of our daily schedule will be posted on facebook and in our Powerschool’s Daily Bulletin.

Our class schedule is as follows:
P.1: 8:00-8:50
P.2: 8:53-9:43
P3: 9:46-10:36
P.4: 10:40-11:30
P.5 A/B: 12:05-1:30
P.6 A/B: 1:35-3:00

Please, please be sure to check your school email for any teacher instructions or Google Classroom invites tonight and tomorrow. If you haven’t received an invite to all of your classes on your schedule, please email your teacher directly. And, just to be clear, we are following our regular daily schedule with four 50-minute classes in the mornings and two block classes in the afternoons and it will involve synchronous start and some asynchronous learning as well depending on the class. We are keeping the schedule the same to maintain consistency and certainty for students.

Lunches will be available for pick up at the back door of the Loyalton Elementary School cafeteria. In order to have lunches for your child, you need to call the cafeteria to order the night before and leave your child’s or children’s names. The number to call is: 993-4482 extension 243.

The Calpine Improvement Association building in Calpine will be open starting Friday from 8:00-3:00 for any students needing fast internet. This educational hub is a wonderful option for our area students, especially those living around Calpine where service is spotty at best.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me or Stacey or reach out via email.

Thank you for all you are doing to make this transition work and Go Grizzlies!
