Happy Monday, I hope you are enjoying some time off on this MLK Day! Here is a transcript for tonight's 5:30 all call. Have a great day! ~Mr. Jones
____________________________________________________
Good evening Grizzlies, this is Mr. Jones with a quick update.
Week 2 of distance learning begins this week. Students we had decent attendance for zoom classes last week so thank you!
The first semester was scheduled to end on Jan. 29th. As a staff we have decided that we want the opportunity to hold end of semester activities in person. To do this we will be extending the second semester to end on Feb. 12th. This will allow students and teachers to work together back in-person in order to bring up grades that may be lower than usual given our circumstances. This will not affect our overall school calendar.
Some of you have asked for an update on sports. While there are plans in works in CIF to allow for some sports, the California Department of Health has not authorized youth sports beyond conditioning. There is no new news to report as of yet and we’ll release any information when it becomes available from the state.
Students, you may set up appointments with your teachers during distance learning. If you need assistance please ask your teachers for an appointment either for a one on one zoom or schedule some time on campus. You may not come with others but you can come by yourself on an appointment basis only at this time. Use your asynchronous time wisely!
Lastly, parents please remember if you have positive cases in your household, and your family has been exposed, everyone in the household with exposure needs to quarantine. If you have questions please work with your local health departments in either Plumas or Sierra counties.
Have a great week and go grizzlies! ... See MoreSee Less

A meeting for the Sierra County Office of Education Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) has been scheduled for January 21, 2021 at 9:00am. Typically the SARB does not meet in January following the winter break for the District, but it was determined by the school administrators that a meeting in January is needed to address student attendance issues. The meeting agenda can be found in the online filing cabinets:

How to Stick to your New Year's Resolution — Downieville Schools

by Conner White Too many, New Year’s resolutions are just something you say you are going to do, then quickly give up on next week without a shrug of concern. It's difficult to make a major change in your life just because the number at the back of the calendar changed.Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District

2:30 LHS Important Announcement!!!! ~Mr. Jones
_______________________________________________
Good afternoon Loyalton High School families, this is Mr. Jones with with a very important announcement.
Starting tomorrow, LHS will temporarily return to distance learning for 2 weeks. We have confirmed exposures to positive cases within our school on our high school and elementary sites. The exposures within our schools are triggering student and staff quarantines. We know this is always a possibility and we will revert to our system already in place to deliver education.
It will be important over the coming days to monitor symptoms in your household and seek testing if symptoms warrant it. Doing a good job now with isolation and universal precautions increases the likelihood that we can return on Feb. 1st.
Starting tomorrow Jan. 14th, the students will transition to distance learning. We will continue our alternating block a/b day schedule resuming with a B Day tomorrow.
4 Class zooms will be scheduled in 55 min. periods starting in the morning at 8:00 am. Lunch follows the first 3 zoom periods then the last zoom period will follow lunch and end at 12:55. 4-30 min. asynchronous periods will occur for independent work in the afternoon. Students may contact teachers for one on one help during that time or your student may be contacted for intervention during that time. The bell schedule will be posted on the district facebook page and on our website.
Students will need to check their google classrooms for the zoom links to attend each class.
Lunch is available for pick up from 11:15 – 11:45 and they must call to sign up the night before (993-4482 x243) and leave a voicemail with name and number of students. Meals will be charged based on their current lunch status (free, reduced, etc.). At this time it is only available to current students.
Lastly, at this time, the school will not be available as an internet hub. Please contact me in the office (993-4454 x310) if you have tech issues that will prevent your student from zooming in.
This is the last thing we want do but we will always err on the side of safety and caution when the situation arise. ... See MoreSee Less

Tonight's 5:30pm all call - enjoy the remainder of your weekend!
~Mr. Jones
_____________________________________________________
Good evening Loyalton High School parents and students, this is Mr. Jones with your weekend update.
2nd quarter progress reports will be mailed out early this week. If your student’s grades are not where you’d like them, please check powerschool or reach your to your student’s teacher. The second semester will end on January 29th.
Did you know that students at LHS are rewarded for instances of Responsibility, Open-mindedness, Ambition, and Respect? Students can turn in ROAR bucks for prizes and drawing opportunities. We love recognizing those students who are going above and beyond.
Senior tribute yearbook pages are for sale. Please contact Mrs. Genasci for details. Yearbooks are currently on sale as well.
Lastly, I wanted to repeat the main message from Mr. Berardi’s all call mid-week. Students and families traveling out-of-state for non-essential travel will need to quarantine for 2 weeks prior to returning to campus. If you have an upcoming trip please contact the office so that arrangements can be made ahead of time.
Have a great week everyone! Enjoy the rest of your evening and go grizzlies! ... See MoreSee Less

When selecting your show hog, there are many areas that you need to assess. The first area you should evaluate is structure. If a baby pig has poor structure, it will be difficult for the animal
to function as a 260 to 280-pound pig. Here are some points to keep in mind when selecting for your new swine project. #texas4h #swinesunday
